Home Exchange in Huacachina

The dunes shift slowly around the lagoon, and at dusk the oasis turns amber under the Ica sun. Huacachina is Peru's smallest village—a crescent of palm trees and colonial balconies pressed against the Atacama's edge—where the rhythm is sandboarding at dawn, ceviche at noon, and the hum of dune buggies fading into silence after dark. To stay here is to live between desert and water, to wake to the smell of algarrobo wood and fall asleep to the sound of wind reshaping the horizon. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best time to visit Huacachina?
May through September brings cooler desert nights and clear skies—ideal for sandboarding and stargazing without the coastal fog that sometimes drifts inland. December through March is warmer but can be hazy, though the lagoon feels more lush. Weekdays are quieter; weekends draw day-trippers from Lima and Ica. Sunrise and late afternoon offer the softest light and coolest sand, while midday belongs to shade and cold drinks by the water.
