Home Exchange in Trujillo

No verified homes listed in Trujillo yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The smell of ceviche and chicha de jora drifts from corner carts in Trujillo, where the Pacific wind meets colonial balconies and pre-Incan ruins sprawl just beyond the city limits. This is Peru's third-largest city, yet it moves at a rhythm hotels can't teach you — markets that open before dawn, evening paseos around the Plaza de Armas, weekends when families head to Huanchaco for fresh fish and caballitos de totora bobbing in the surf. Living here, even briefly, means breakfast at a neighbourhood mercado, walking distance to Chan Chan's adobe labyrinths, and the kind of local pride that shows in every festival and every plate. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Trujillo feel most local?

The Centro Histórico pulses with colonial architecture and daily market life, while residential neighbourhoods like La Merced and San Andrés offer a quieter, family-oriented pace just blocks from the action. Huanchaco, twenty minutes north along the coast, trades urban energy for beachfront calm — it's where Trujillanos escape on weekends, and where you'll find the city's most famous cevicherías and surf culture. Each zone has its own cadence, but all share that North Coast warmth and a pride in living well without rushing.
