Home Exchange in San Diego
No verified homes listed in San Diego yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
San Diego moves at the pace of its year-round sun — unhurried mornings in Ocean Beach cafés, afternoons that stretch into golden hour surf checks, evenings that smell of carne asada from backyard grills. This is a city where the Pacific shapes the rhythm: neighborhoods spill down canyons toward the water, farmers' markets anchor weekend routines, and locals measure seasons by jacaranda blooms and gray whale migrations rather than snow or fall leaves. To stay here is to slip into that cadence — the early dog walks through Balboa Park, the fish tacos eaten on a patio, the easy crossing between urban blocks and coastal trails. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which San Diego neighborhoods feel most local?
North Park and South Park hum with walkable coffee shops, craft breweries, and weekend farmers' markets — the heartbeat of everyday San Diego life. Ocean Beach skews laid-back and surf-centric, while La Jolla offers dramatic coastline and tide pools. Hillcrest brings dense, urban energy with strong LGBTQ+ roots. For families, Clairemont and Point Loma offer quiet residential streets near parks and beaches. Most neighborhoods sit within a 20-minute drive of the coast, and many locals bike year-round thanks to the mild climate.
