Home Exchange in New York

No verified homes listed in New York yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The screech of the subway grate, the smell of roasting chestnuts in November, the particular angle of light between buildings at 5pm — New York announces itself in fragments before you ever see a skyline. Living here, even briefly, means falling into the rhythm of a neighbourhood: the bodega that knows your order, the park where dog-walkers gather at dawn, the block where Saturday smells like dim sum or fresh bread. Hotels keep you at the surface; a kitchen with a view of fire escapes and water towers pulls you under. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which season shows New York at its best?

Fall and late spring are magic — September through early November brings crisp air and golden light in Central Park, while May offers blooming streets and outdoor tables without the summer crush. Winter has its own charm if you love bundling up for museum marathons and dim bar corners, though February can feel long. Summer is intense: hot, humid, but alive with rooftop gatherings and free concerts. Each borough shifts with the seasons differently — Brooklyn brownstone blocks glow in autumn, while the Hudson River parks shine in May.
