Home Exchange in San Francisco
No verified homes listed in San Francisco yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
San Francisco mornings arrive with fog that clings to the Presidio's eucalyptus groves and burns off by noon, leaving the air sharp and bright. The city rewards walking — steep climbs through pastel Victorians in the Inner Sunset, ferry rides to Sausalito, dim sum in Chinatown's basement banquets, sourdough bread still warm from Tartine. Staying in a neighbourhood means you catch the rhythm: the 22 Fillmore rumbling past your window, the produce guy at the farmers' market who knows which stone fruit is perfect today, the marine layer rolling back in at dusk. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which San Francisco neighbourhoods feel most local?
The Mission pulses with murals, taquerías, and late-night bookstores. The Outer Sunset stretches quiet and foggy toward Ocean Beach, where surfers paddle out year-round. Hayes Valley offers walkable cafés and small design shops near Alamo Square. North Beach still hums with Italian bakeries and Beat Generation ghosts. Avoid thinking of San Francisco as one place — each neighbourhood has its own microclimate, its own corner store, its own hour when the light hits just right.
