Home Exchange in Chicago
No verified homes listed in Chicago yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Chicago announces itself in layers: the clatter of the L overhead, the smell of onions on a char-grilled hot dog, the way the lake wind hits you the moment you turn east. This is a city built on grids and grit, where neighbourhoods still have their own rhythms — Polish bakeries in Avondale, jazz spilling out of Bronzeville basements, families grilling in Pilsen backyards on Sunday afternoons. Staying in a Chicago home means morning coffee on a brick back porch, walking to the corner bodega for groceries, and understanding why locals never call it the Willis Tower. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which Chicago neighbourhoods feel most local?
Logan Square and Pilsen hum with working creative energy — murals, taco joints, bike-friendly streets. Andersonville and Ravenswood offer tree-lined calm and Swedish bakeries. Bronzeville carries deep jazz history. Hyde Park blends university life with lakefront green space. Most locals live north or west of the Loop, where the real porches, corner bars, and weekend farmers' markets are. The L connects it all, but each stop feels like a different village.
