Canada unfolds as an activities playground where wilderness and urban culture collide in spectacular fashion. From kayaking among orcas off Vancouver Island to cycling Montreal's festival-packed streets, the country rewards travellers who come with an itinerary full of doing rather than simply seeing. National parks like Banff and Jasper offer world-class hiking and wildlife watching, while cities like Toronto and Quebec deliver food tours, live music scenes, and neighbourhood explorations that fill every evening. The sheer geographic spread means you can chase the northern lights in Yukon, surf Pacific swells in Tofino, or canoe through Algonquin's backcountry lakes—all in one trip if you're ambitious enough.

Why Canada works for things to do

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real Canada home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What types of outdoor activities can I realistically do in Canada during different seasons?

Summer and early fall open up hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and cycling across the Rockies, Canadian Shield, and coastal regions. Winter transforms the landscape for skiing, snowboarding, ice skating on frozen canals like Ottawa's Rideau, and dog sledding in northern territories. Spring brings whale watching off both coasts and maple syrup farm tours in Quebec and Ontario. Shoulder seasons often offer the best deals on gear rentals and fewer crowds on popular trails, though always check regional weather—Canada's climate varies wildly from coast to coast.
