The United Arab Emirates rewards activity-driven travellers with extremes that span millennia. Beyond the headline towers, you'll find falcon hospitals where handlers explain ancient Bedouin traditions, souks in Sharjah piled with Iranian textiles and Omani frankincense, and the Empty Quarter's rust-red dunes where guided safaris end in star-lit camps. Abu Dhabi's Louvre floats on the Gulf; Fujairah's wadis hide turquoise pools accessible only on foot. Neighborhoods like Al Fahidi in Dubai and Al Qasba in Sharjah balance heritage walks with modern art districts. Base yourself locally, and every day becomes a choose-your-own itinerary between desert, coast, and culture.

Why United Arab Emirates works for things to do

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real United Arab Emirates home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Fair by design

1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What activities beyond the famous attractions make the UAE compelling for explorers?

Look to the edges: hike Wadi Shawka's rock pools near Ras Al Khaimah, kayak the mangrove channels of Abu Dhabi's Eastern Mangroves, or join a sunrise dune drive in Liwa followed by a visit to a camel farm. Sharjah's Heritage Area offers calligraphy workshops and traditional coffee ceremonies. Friday fish markets in Fujairah and Dibba showcase Gulf maritime culture, while evening abra rides along Dubai Creek cost pennies and reveal working waterfronts unchanged in decades.
