Argentina's cities unfold like distinct chapters in a single sprawling novel. Buenos Aires pulses with tango halls and belle époque cafés where porteños linger over cortados until midnight. Córdoba reveals colonial courtyards and a university district humming with student energy. Mendoza sprawls beneath the Andes, its tree-lined avenues leading to wine bars and plaza fountains. Salta's pastel facades frame highland folklore, while Rosario's riverfront promenades trace the Paraná. Each city carries its own rhythm—late dinners, passionate football debates, Sunday asados that stretch into evening. Understanding these urban textures transforms a visit from checklist tourism into genuine immersion.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

How do I navigate the distinct neighbourhood cultures within Argentine cities?

Argentine barrios function almost as separate villages. In Buenos Aires, Palermo subdivides into Soho's design shops and Hollywood's nightlife, while San Telmo preserves antique markets and milongas. Locals identify fiercely by neighbourhood—ask a porteño where they're from and they'll name their barrio, not the city. Most areas center on a plaza with its own cafés and kiosks. Walking remains the best way to absorb each district's character, though colectivos (buses) connect them affordably. Evening strolls reveal how Argentines actually live: families gathering in parks, corner almacenes selling empanadas, impromptu mate circles on sidewalks.
