Sweden's cities reveal themselves slowly, through quiet design details and rhythms that shift with the light. Stockholm spreads across fourteen islands where cobblestone lanes open onto waterfront promenades, while Gothenburg's canal-side neighbourhoods blend industrial heritage with thriving food halls. Malmö's cycling culture and coastal position make it a gateway between Scandinavian and Continental sensibilities. Each city maintains distinct walking districts—Gamla Stan's medieval core, Haga's wooden houses, Lund's university quarter—where cafés close early but museum collections stay world-class. The fika tradition structures daily life around intentional pauses, and public transport systems connect urban centres to archipelago islands and forest edges within minutes.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
How do Swedish cities differ from each other for urban explorers?
Stockholm offers island-hopping architecture and extensive museum districts across Djurgården and Södermalm. Gothenburg feels more compact and maritime, with tram-accessible neighbourhoods like Linné and a strong café culture around Haga. Malmö skews younger and more experimental, especially in the Western Harbour's sustainable design quarter. Uppsala and Lund bring university town energy with cathedral landmarks and botanical gardens. Northern cities like Umeå and Kiruna introduce Sami culture and seasonal light extremes. Each maintains excellent walkability, distinct food scenes, and design shops that reflect regional craft traditions rather than homogeneous Scandinavian branding.
