No listings matched yet in India — be the first host
India rewards retirees who travel with curiosity and patience. Beyond the well-trodden circuits, you'll find hill stations like Coonoor and Coorg where mornings are cool and unhurried, heritage cities such as Jaipur and Mysore where palaces tell stories at a walking pace, and coastal stretches in Goa and Kerala where Ayurvedic traditions meet gentle seaside rhythms. The country's respect for elders runs deep—expect genuine warmth, helpful neighbours, and a culture that values conversation over haste. Longer stays let you settle into local markets, discover regional cuisines beyond the curry-house clichés, and experience India's layered spirituality without the rush.
Why India works for for retirees
Homes, not hotel rooms
Live in a real India home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.
Fair by design
1 credit = 1 night. Every home is worth the same. No bidding, no haggling, no price surges.
Curated for for retirees
We prioritise heating, air conditioning, wifi · house, apartment, villas — the kind of homes that actually fit the travel style.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which regions in India are most comfortable for retirees seeking a slower pace?
Hill stations in the south and northeast—Ooty, Munnar, Shillong—offer temperate climates and tranquil surroundings. Kerala's backwater towns like Alleppey combine natural beauty with excellent healthcare access. Pondicherry blends French colonial charm with beachside calm, while Rajasthan's smaller heritage towns such as Udaipur provide cultural richness without overwhelming crowds. Most of these areas have expat and retired Indian communities, reliable pharmacies, and English-speaking doctors. Avoid peak summer in the plains; October through March is gentlest almost everywhere.
