Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What makes Singapore particularly comfortable for retirees visiting long-term?
Singapore's infrastructure is designed for ease: MRT stations have lifts, footpaths are well-maintained, and medical care is world-class with many doctors trained abroad. The city is exceptionally safe, even late at night. Hawker centres offer inexpensive, familiar meals, and most locals speak English. The compact size means you're never far from green spaces like Fort Canning or MacRitchie Reservoir. Humidity can be intense, but malls, museums, and indoor attractions provide comfortable retreats. The blend of efficiency, safety, and accessibility makes extended stays remarkably stress-free.
