Home Exchange in Barranquilla

No verified homes listed in Barranquilla yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Barranquilla sprawls along the Magdalena River where it meets the Caribbean, a city that pulses with the drums of Carnival and the salt air of the coast. This is Colombia's Golden Gate: a port town that's always looked outward, blending cumbia with currents from everywhere. The neighbourhoods shift from the breezy malecón to tree-lined streets in El Prado, where modernist houses hide behind mango trees. Markets sell bocachico and yuca, and the heat breaks each afternoon with sudden rain. It's a place that celebrates loudly — then returns to its easy, coastal rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When is the best time to experience Barranquilla?

Carnival season in February or March transforms the entire city into a street party — four days of parades, music, and marimonda masks. If you prefer quieter rhythms, visit between June and November when the crowds thin and you'll have the malecón and seafood restaurants mostly to yourself. The heat is consistent year-round, but the Caribbean breeze makes mornings and evenings pleasant. Avoid October if you're not fond of rain; it's the wettest month, though showers tend to be brief and dramatic.
