Home Exchange in Portland
No verified homes listed in Portland yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Portland mornings start with the hiss of espresso machines and the rustle of bike tires on wet pavement. This is a city that takes its coffee, its roses, and its rainy-season rituals seriously — where food carts serve Thai curry under dripping awnings and bookstore cats nap beside first editions. To stay here like a local means claiming a favourite cart pod, learning which bridges offer the best views of Mount Hood on clear days, and understanding that summer's brief, golden months are when the whole city migrates to patios and river beaches. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Portland?
Summer — roughly late June through September — delivers Portland's payoff: warm, dry days, outdoor concerts, and a city-wide exhale after months of grey. But the shoulder seasons have their charm: spring brings cherry blossoms and manageable crowds, while autumn offers crisp air and the start of cozy café season. Winter is wet and dim, but locals embrace it with wool layers, hearty brunches, and a thriving indoor culture of breweries, theatres, and covered markets. Pack a rain jacket any time before July.
