Home Exchange in Charleston
No verified homes listed in Charleston yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Charleston moves to the rhythm of church bells and the creak of porch swings, a Low Country cadence that hotel lobbies never quite capture. Here, the day begins with she-crab soup simmering in cast iron, and evenings unfold on piazzas where jasmine climbs wrought iron and neighbors still stop to talk. The city's beauty isn't just in its pastel rowhouses and harbor light—it's in the kitchens where biscuits are made from scratch, the side streets where Spanish moss frames cobblestone, the markets where sweetgrass baskets are woven by hand. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Charleston?
Spring and fall offer the gentlest weather—March through May brings azaleas and wisteria in full bloom, while September through November delivers warm days without the summer humidity. Winter is mild and quieter, ideal for exploring historic districts without crowds. Summer means thunderstorms most afternoons and thick heat, but also festival season and long beach days on Sullivan's Island or Folly Beach. Whenever you come, the city's porch culture and walkable peninsular layout reward slow mornings and late-afternoon wandering.
